Artist Statement

This book is an informative and personal look into the Art Nouveau movement, inspired by my long-term interest in art history. In this book, I delve into the history of the movement along with my love for the design elements that are signature to the aesthetic. From learning about the historical and social context of the movement, to looking into many design disciplines that flourished during this time, this project allowed me to explore my many interests. I reflect on personal stories about my travels and friends while investigating what about this movement speaks to me and my own work. This piece is an 8.5 by 11-inch book that is 16 pages long. It was designed using several software like Adobe Illustrator, InDesign, and Procreate. I blended digital illustration and graphic design using painterly, organic elements with vector accents. All the spreads use design disciplines to make the piece feel seamless from the text and images to the bold, colorful illustrations that set the theme for each spread.
